Earthquakes in Ohio!
About 15 miles north of Columbus, at Alum Creek
State Park, the Ohio Earthquake Information Center records seismic activity in Ohio. This information is transmitted to the
U.S. Geological Survey U.S. National Seismic Network station.
Displays, including a near-real-time display of ground
motion, are in the lobby. Seismometers can be seen by the public through a window.
It's a great place for kids to learn about faults, how
these zones of weakness in the Earth's crust were created, and how the continuous movement of the tectonic plates that make up the Earth's crust can result in earthquakes.
